About the Artist
Anne Burkholder was born in North Platte in 1940 and raised in the Nebraska Sandhills, which inspired her lifelong love of Nebraska landscapes. Since the early 1960’s, Anne has had her paintings accepted in many national and regional juried shows, winning first place awards for her oils and watercolors. Her works are included in many private, public, and corporate collections in the United States, as well as in 30 countries. These include England, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, China and Japan.
Anne exhibited at several galleries in Colombia, South America during 1989-90. As part of a cultural exchange in 1991, she was invited to Tadzhikistan, where she had exhibitions in both Dushanbe and Huajand. Anne received a Doctor of Humane Letters from Doane College in 1997 for her work as an artist and developer of the award winning Burkholder Project. In 2011 she was also presented with the ‘Downtown Visionary’ award by the Downtown Lincoln Association – for her vision and commitment to the Historic Haymarket. Anne’s development of the Burkholder Project at 719 P Street, has inspired other artists and entrepreneurs. In resurrecting an old, run-down building in 1987, she helped transform the Haymarket into the vibrant area it is today.
In 2014, Anne was commissioned by Lincoln Mayor, Chris Beutler, to be designer and curator of ‘Gallery Alley’. The alley between the Creamery Building and the Burkholder Project now serves as an inviting entrance to the Haymarket from the south and is filled with fantastic artwork and spectacular lighting.
Over the years, Anne has welcomed hundreds of artists and art-lovers into her collective. The Burkholder Project has a reputation for being a pillar in the History Haymarket because of its contribution to Lincoln’s art community.
